RSE at St James's
As a Catholic school, our RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) is rooted in our Catholic faith, whilst fulfilling the statutory requirements of the PSHE Curriculum. The teaching of RSE at St James's is always rooted in love.
From September 2020 RSE has become statutory for all children.
At St James's, our chosen RSE scheme is 'Life to the Full'. This is a resource produced by Ten Ten Resources. We also use Ten Ten Resources for our Collective Worship.
The Life to the Full scheme fully covers the requirements of the PSHE curriculum which are statutory for RSE. After consulting with parents, we have only opted to cover the areas required for Primary pupils, and not any of the optional content.
Life to the Full is also fully mapped out to the Catholic Education Service's model curricular for RSE in Catholic schools.
Our RSE policy may be viewed on our policies page here.
Life to the Full
The programme includes teaching about personal health, physical and emotional well-being, strong emotions, private parts of the body, personal relationships, family structures, trusted adults, growing bodies, puberty, periods, life cycles, the dangers of social media, where babies come from, an understanding of the Common Good and living in the wider world.
The entire teaching is underpinned with a Christian faith understanding that our deepest identity is as a child of God – created, chosen and loved by God. The programme is fully inclusive of all pupils and their families.
Ten Ten provide a parent portal for parents/guardians to access all of the resources used in school to teach RSE. Details of how to access this can be found by contacting the school office.
RSE is also included in our half termly Topic Webs for each year group.
