Eco Team
“The climate is a common good, belonging to all and meant for all.”
Pope Francis, Laudato Si'
At St James’s we have an Eco Club. There are two Eco Club members from each class in Years 1 to 6. These members are elected by their peers and are inspired by the Catholic Social Teaching Principle of Care of Creation, as well as Pope Francis’ letter Laudato Si.
The Eco Club’s aim is to make our school a greener and more eco-friendly place. They meet every week to learn about ways we can help the environment and take action to make a difference. Some of the things they have focused on include looking after animals and nature, reducing waste, and encouraging others to be more sustainable. Throughout the year, the Eco Club also run St James’s Eco Shop, where families can buy washing up liquid, soaps, laundry detergent in refillable bottles, helping to reduce waste. The children also identify the most Eco Friendly Class of the Week, and announce this each week during whole school celebration of the word.
The work of the Eco Club is inspired by the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Care of Creation, working to ensure we all become stewards of creation.
