St James’s Catholic Primary School ‘Put out into the deep’

At St. James’s we recognise that reading is of central importance in allowing children to access learning, broaden their educational experiences and deepen their knowledge of the world. We aim to nurture in each child a love of books and reading and develop a growing ability to read fluently, confidently and with understanding, not only to improve and extend each child’s skills but also for pleasure. We have a wide variety of reading books which are available for the children to use which gives them access to a variety of fiction, poetry, play scripts and non-fiction books.

The schemes we follow as a school are:

  • Oxford Reading Tree
  • Ginn
  • All Aboard
  • Floppy's Phonics
