Our Pupil Council was set up in 2004 and serves as a democratically elected body and a voice for the children in our school.

Candidates wishing to be part of the Pupil Council have to deliver a speech and give reasons as to why they are the best candidates to represent their class. Membership of Pupil Council runs from Year 2 – 6. Classes vote for two representatives. This system of election is held each year with an opportunity for new members to run for a position.

We build a foundation of understanding towards how a meeting runs, and how a council can be effective. From this, children within the Pupil Council elect a leadership team to guide and direct meetings, the agenda and aims throughout the coming year. This leadership consists of Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, which are shared by two members each from Years 5 or 6.

Ms Foley runs the meetings and oversees the council. Minutes are recorded by the secretaries and the children take their roles very seriously.

The Pupil Council has already played an important role in the judging of the St James’s Bake Off. Last year, they promoted, among other things, a borough led poster competition for which three lucky winners were chosen from our school entries. In addition, the Year 6 members attended a COP26 Borough Conference which allowed them to gain invaluable debating experience. The Council has also taken part in some key questionnaires which will support new initiatives within the school.
