Pupil Council
At St James's, we have a Pupil Council. There are two pupil councillors per class in Years 1 to 6. These councillors are elected from their peers, and are inspired by Gospel Values and Catholic Social Teaching to work for the community of our school.
The Pupil Council attend weekly meetings where they discuss topics about the school. They vote about what they should change and if so how they can change things. The Pupil Council work to make the school a better place for all pupils by listening to everyone’s ideas and using them to find out what the children want. They collect ideas from their classes and feedback discussions that we have during our meetings.
Children within the Pupil Council elect a leadership team to guide and direct meetings, the agenda and aims throughout the coming year. This leadership consists of Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. They are inspired by the Catholic Social Teaching Principle of Community and Participation, working to build up the St James’s Community and ensure everyone’s voice is heard.
This year we will continue to support:
- Developing the profile of Pupil Council
- Rights Respecting Schools
- Anti-bullying
- Many other new school initiatives
