Early Collection or Absence Requests

Requesting Early Collection:

Children should not be sent in late or collected early for personal events or parent work commitments.

Routine appointments should be made outside of school hours.

  • Please send an email before 8.30am to Info@st-james.richmond.sch.uk.
    • Child’s name
    • Class name
    • Reason for early collection
    • Supporting evidence of the appointment (this can be a text message or screen shot of the apt.).

  • The school may encounter delays collecting your child, children should be collected a minimum of at least 1 hour before the appointment time (factoring in travel time).

  • You may be contacted for an alternate collection time, if the school has received a high volume of early requests for that morning or afternoon.    Typically you will be requested to collect your child at noon.

  • This is to collate the requests to set times, to minimise disruption to other children's class room learning.  Please take note of the time that the school have advised you to collect your child.

  • We always advise children to go straight to an appointment if it is before 11.00am.

Requesting Absence during term time:

Please make sure you are aware of the calendar and put key dates into your diary.

We politely request that you arrange your family holidays and planned trips when the school is closed.

We never recommend that children be taken out of school during term time as this is disruptive to routines and children miss vital parts of the curriculum.

The Department of Education now requires schools to undertake an absence survey and they regard holidays or personal trips as “unacceptable reasons” for absence.  The D of E have reported that vacation or personal trips, taken during term time will be marked as unauthorised absence.

Parents/Carers will need to complete an Application for Absence Form,  at least two weeks in advance for any planned absences during Term Time (please refer to Parent's, Letters section).

This should be completed for absence for a child to attend personal trips, vacations or funerals, for example.

This form does not need to be completed for medical appointments.
